Why the Brown Pelican?

Chailland, Inc. was founded at around the same time the barrier islands where the pelicans nest were being restored to preserve their habitat.  It seemed fitting that the Pelican serve as a symbol for Chailland’s commitment to restoring service in an area of business where service was almost extinct.  Don Chailland was appalled every time he called a business and had to navigate through an automated telephone reception menu.  To him, that was the epitome of what was wrong with American business.  People should deal with people and a handshake should be enough to seal a deal.  Service is what makes business work.  If you tell someone that you will do something, do it.  He felt that the Pelican’s restoration to Louisiana would symbolize the restoration of service in the human resources business.

Too often people’s expectations are dashed when it comes to managing the problems of payroll, employee benefits, workers compensation, and any other issues that arise out of the HR functions.  Systems and procedures are nice, but the only thing that matters is if you can get a real live person on the phone to help you sort out the problem when the systems and procedures inevitably fail.  That was the motivating factor behind the founding of Chailland Business Services.

Next time you see a Brown Pelican soaring through the air, think of how some things are worth preserving.  Remember that commitment is worth preserving.  Dedication to purpose is worth preserving.  Those are the things we are proud of at Chailland Business Services.
